CONSTRUCTION OF KENYA’s DONGO KUNDU BYPASS PHASE II TO BEGIN IN APRIL
Kenya Dongo Kundu phase II bypass to kick-off in April of this year.
The phase II construction work of Dongo Kundu Bypass will kick-off in April. This is as confirmed by Kenya National Highways Authority Director General Peter Mundinia.
According to him, Japanese consortium Fujita Corporation/Mitsubishi Corporation is in charge of construction. With the construction of the project set to be complete in 2 years with the cost worth Sh24 billion.
Peter Mundinia said ”comparing to other Bridges, this one is bigger than Nyali (390m) and Kilifi (420m). He also said that it will reduce cost and time used to crossover to and from the South Coast.”
The Dual carriage highway which is 8.96km will include Mwache bridge (660m) long, Mwache viaduct (680m) and Mteza bridge. Meanwhile, the bypass will serve the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone as well as boosting trade and tourism in the nation.
President Kenyatta during the opening ceremony of the Dongo Kundu Bypass Phase I in June 2018 said that the second stage will kick-off in August. But this was delayed due to contract checking and other government processes.
According to Mundinia, as huge as this project is, it has to pass through the Attorney-General to assess the issue of taxation and agreements. He said the contractor needs to mobilise their equipment to site even before the contract is awarded.
